Lowell Melser
Lowell Melser joined the WBAL-TV 11 News team in February 2004.As a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor, Melser covers a broad range of stories throughout the Baltimore area, from hard news, including tornadoes and floods, to issues with local impact.Melser is known for his compelling and animated style of storytelling.
"I like to make the viewers feel like they are on the scene with me," he says.Melser came to WBAL from WAVY-TV, in Norfolk, Va., where he served as an anchor and general assignment reporter since 2001. He reported on such stories as the Washington, D.C., sniper trials, the Hurricane Isabel devastation and 9/11, reporting from the USS Truman aircraft carrier. Prior to that, he worked as a weekend anchor at WAKA-TV in Montgomery, Ala.His first foray in the television broadcast arena was in 1997 as a general assignment reporter at KIFI-TV in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He began his career in 1995 as an associate producer for the Washington Redskins radio broadcast.Melser, a native of Maryland, graduated from Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Broadcast Communications.
