BALTIMORE -- A helping hand has been extended to a center that has reached out to those in need for decades. After 11 News first aired news of the Bea Gaddy shelter's problems Thursday night, Pamela Boyer of BFPE International in Hanover made a donation to pay the outstanding Baltimore Gas and Electric bill.
Watch The ReportThe west Baltimore shelter was founded 20 years ago by Bea Gaddy. Her mission was to provide housing and food to Baltimore's homeless community. The shelter recently extended its services to women and children, but a drop in donations is making it harder to accommodate new tenants.
"It's extremely tough to have to turn women away. We have a waiting list every day. We have 10 to 15 women calling every day, looking for shelter," said Bea Gaddy Executive Director Cynthia Brooks.Although the Baltimore Gas and Electric bill has been paid, they are still in need of other donations so that they can feed the homeless at Thanksgiving. If you would like to help, you can call 410-563-2749 or drop donations at the shelter located at 425 N. Chester St. in Baltimore.
