An online company is offering digital converter boxes for what seems like a better deal than the government, but it may not be, experts said.

Watch: DTV Converter Scam

Starting Feb. 17, if you have an old TV with the antennae, you'll need a converter box.

The government is offering coupons to ease the burden, but advertisements have started popping up all over the country promising a box for free -- you just have to pay $59 for the warranty plus shipping.

"We certainly would suggest that it's false advertising and pretty close to the rip-off stage," said Sandra Prebil of the Better Business Bureau.

The company said it's just offering an alternative to the coupons, but Prebil said it's better to get the box from a local electronics store where you get the unit and a remote control for $60.

She said with the government-issued coupon, the price comes down to $20.
